Named after his newborn daughter, China Charmeleon’s Anelka, is a 10-track continuation of his exploration of the complexities and various shades of South Africa’s thriving house music scene. China’s deep, soulful productions stand as a celebration through uplifting, funk-rooted compositions (“Love of My Life”), groove-laden, deep house melodies (“L.O.V.E.”) and broodier beats (“Family”). And while the artwork might be reminiscent of a muted charcoal drawing, Anelka shines in its tonal and emotional depth that finds the producer at the peak of his prowess.
